What is a konjac sponge, you ask? It’s a fun little skincare product hailing from Asia that cleanses the skin and unclogs pores. In short, a konjac sponge is a more effective K-beauty alternative to a washcloth. And since konjac sponges also work as gentle exfoliators, they are a must for any sensitive skin or acne-prone individual.
The Konjac Sponge comes from Japan, primarily, and is found to be rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, & E, proteins, lipids, fatty acids and natural minerals such as copper, zinc, iron and magnesium. It also boasts of a neutral PH, which means it will help balance your skin. It is a naturally alkaline plant and won’t damage the epidermis of your skin.
Used For Over 1,500 Years
Konjac Sponges are made from the dried and ground root of the konjac, or elephant yam, that’s native to Asia. Asian cultures have used konjac root for over 1,500 years, and konjac sponges have been a popular item there for about 100 years. The Konjac Sponge has been used in Japan first as a bath sponge for newborn babies because of its soft texture. Recently, the Konjac Sponge is sold as an cleansing item intended for luxury Japanese cosmetic and the Konjac Sponge’s popularity has been on the rise as facial cleansing and bath sponge in China, South East Asia and Europe.
How to Use?
Soak the sponge in warm water for 15 minutes before the first use. Once you’ve used it, it will only need soaking for a minute or two before it softens and expands to about one and a half times its size.
Gently squeeze the excess water out. Don’t be rough with it. Apply a small amount of cleanser (if desired). Rub the konjac sponge on the face in upward, circular motions.
Rinse the konjac sponge well with cool water and gently squeeze the excess water out by pressing the sponge between your palms. Don’t twist, wring, or pull on it.
Hang it to dry, or put it on a rack so there’s airflow. Alternately, you can keep the sponge in a sealed container in your fridge. Make sure to store it away from light and humidity.
Some Benefits of the Konjac Sponge
The Konjac Beauty Sponge can cleanse your skin of dirt, blackheads, whiteheads, oil, and other blemishes.
The drugstore cleaners and toners just don’t make the cut anymore. Once dirt sets on your face for more than 24 hours, you could expect that you’ll have pimples the next morning. One of the konjac sponge skin benefits is to make your skin extremely clean without drying it out making it dull-looking. To make your skin even softer after use, use moisturizer.
Konjac Sponge helps with makeup application and makes your makeup stay on longer.
The sponge will make all dry skin flakes vanish and because your skin is moisturized by the konjac sponge, your face becomes more responsive to other skin care products. It also makes your face the perfect canvas for cosmetics. Your skin also becomes bouncy, and will be able to release its natural oil. It’s also great during makeup removal because the konjac sponge is a good cleanser, it can also wipe off stubborn traces of makeup on your face.
They Give You a Radiant Glow
The konjac sponge works to gently exfoliate your skin, sloughing away dead skin cells, giving skin a smooth, glowy complexion. You can finally have that clear and glowing complexion that looks natural. The longer you use the sponge, the better your skin will get.
Gentle cleansing is part of konjac sponge skin benefits.
This product is okay for those with sensitive skin and will not damage your skin cells. They can even be used to shower babies! The sponges are so soft and palm-sized and make a perfect sponge for baby bath time.
Taking Care of a Konjac Sponge
If you have long nails, please do not squeeze/poke the sponge too hard as it may tear the sponge and cause it to fall apart.
Do not expose the sponge to direct sunlight and do not leave the sponge in humid place i.e. poorly ventilated bathroom or faucet area. Alternatively, keep the sponge in a container and store it in a refrigerator.
Replace sponge every 3-4 weeks for the best cleansing experience.
Great value ! I was paying over double for the same thing in a different shape at a large beauty retailer. Switch to this! I won’t ever buy another one again. I love the shape and the texture… Great quality. Really makes your face feel clean and fresh
Its so great !

The dry areas of skin on my forehead and cheeks have disappeared and the oil beside my nose seems less after just a few days of using the green clay sponge. I’ve already told friends. Thanks!

I couldn’t wait to receive my shipment since a friend had recommended the sponge so highly. I received it quickly and I love it. Very interesting texture but really makes my skin feel clean and soft. Much less harsh as an exfoliator than loofah pads. Will definitely purchase again.
Nice product, offers some gentle physical exfoliation to your routine and it has no bad smell like some others I have tried.
